STEGO WRAP
Stego Wrap is a polyolefin vapor barrier used to protect concrete slabs from moisture intrusion and soil gases such as radon and methane. These Vapor Barriers come in 10-mil, 15-mil, and 20-mil thicknesses. The 15-mil and 20-mil rolls are Class A-rated, and have low permeance.
Installing Stego Wrap
Stego Wrap can be installed over an aggregate, sand, or tamped earth base. Unroll the vapor barrier over the area where the slab is to be placed. It should fully cover the concrete placement area with a 6” taped overlap. See full installation instructions at stegoindustries.com.
Where can I buy Stego Wrap
Stego Wrap is available through a local distributor, however product availability is subject to regional stock levels. The full product line and free shipping is available through a national distributor like overlakesupply.com.
How much does Stego Wrap Cost?
Depending on the mil thickness and vapor barrier class rating, the Stego Wrap pricing ranges from about $0.19 to $0.41 per square foot. This pricing includes shipping. Generally, the higher the mil thickness, the higher the cost per square foot.
How does Stego Wrap Stack up vs. Visqueen?
Visqueen is a more generic term referring to lower grade plastic films that have much higher permeance and less durability than Stego Wrap. Most generic plastic films do not comply with ASTM E 1745 and are not a good choice for under-slab vapor barrier protection.

FAQ
Stego Wrap
Made from Stego Industry’s (SI) secret blend of prime virgin resins and additivess, their Wrap 15-MIL Vapor Barrier is an ASTM E1745 Class A Vapor Barrier (below 0.01 perms). They wanted to develop a product that would maintain its extremely low permeance which is the degree to which a material allows the flow of matter or energy. The protection provided by thier Wrap Vapor Barrier offers the flexibility to change flooring types and the overall building use without being concerned about below-slab moisture vapor.
Even though it’s the side of the building never seen, it’s the foundation that keeps the structure safe. They created these barriers for below your building’s floor slab. Since 1998, SI has developed films that have revolutionized the way the construction industry protects against moisture vapor and soil gases with this excellent product. This Wrap Vapor Barrier has drastically improved performance against moisture intrusion versus conventional methods.
Features And Benefits
- Has an unsurpassed performance track record
- Offers longevity and strength
- Exceptional resistant to tearing and punctures
- Easy reliable installation
- Priced competitively
- Warranty for the life of the building
- Installation support
Defense Against Floor Failure Is Excellent
The infiltration of moisture through concrete slabs means there is a major building defect liability. This Wrap Vapor Barrier has exceptionally low permeance rating, to prevent water vapor and soil gases from compromising the integrity of the building envelope which can lead to serious problems with the concrete slab, the floor coverings, and indoor air quality. The Wrap Vapor Barrier is absolutely the best product to protect against any of these costly failures.
Choosing Between Above-Grade Wraps vs Below-Grade Wraps
If you think of your home as a shell that envelopes your home, you can protect it from winds, temperature, fluctuations, and moisture if you used the right products placed in the right locations. A really good example is installing your insulation at the start of the construction instead of on the floor joists. By doing so, you will make your envelope much stronger and secure throughout your entire home.
Also, you must know the difference between above-grade weather barriers and below-grade crawl space vapor barriers. Make sure you know the differences before ever starting construction to ensure you have chosen the right system for your entire house.
Above-grade weather barriers -
These are weather barriers that are applied to walls and floors for better airflow through the walls while blocking water from passing through but allowing water vapor to escape. Above-grade barriers are actually breathable membranes which are critical to stopping moisture build-up on the wrong side of the wall causing mildew and rot.
Below-slab/crawl space vapor barriers -
Vapor barriers are constructed for a completely different purpose. These barriers are a lot less passable than weather barriers and should only be used where the movement of vapor is not wanted. Vapor barriers are designed to maintain dry interior slabs and dry, safe crawl spaces.
Its Longevity And Strength
You really only have one chance to choose and install a below-slab vapor barrier before the slab is placed. Therefore, the strength and longevity of the material are critical to the success of the system. The Wrap Vapor Barrier is designed to get through difficult installation conditions without tearing or puncturing easily. The prime virgin resins used to develop the Wrap Vapor Barrier will help ensure long-term performance.

Keep Your Chavez Concrete On Track During Construction
For three generations, Chavez Concrete has been the most trusted name in New Mexico and it’s one of the largest and oldest concrete companies. They know what it takes to get the job done right the first time. Their dedication, craftsmanship, hands-on leadership, and possessing the ability to select the right tools. When Chavez secured the project for both Cost Plus World Market and Bed Bath and Beyond, to pour the concrete, they stayed on course and chose the Wrap Vapor Barrier for their project’s below-slab moisture protection.
Chavez knew they were dealing with a very large surface area, due to the size and scope of the new stores which are over 600 yards of concrete in the same shopping center. They had a planned April opening that was quickly approaching. They knew that having the right vapor barrier was essential for getting the job done right and quickly. They relied on the Wrap Vapor Barrier and Tape to get the vapor barrier they needed.
What SI Gave Chavez Concrete For A Quick Turnaround
Even though they were under a great deal of pressure from the approaching deadlines, they knew they had to pay attention to details that are often overlooked. One being, the vapor protection, since below-slab conditions can cause unwanted vapor, diffusion from the subgrade and into the slab. The vapor barrier must be long-lasting and meet the ASTM E1745 Class A performance criteria and can be easily installed by the procedures outlined in ASTM E1643.
Chavez chose two SI products that fit their needs for quality and for a quick turnaround: The Solution Was SI Wrap & Tape.
SI's Wrap is the leader in the industry for below-slab moisture vapor protection. This product is extremely low permeance under-slab vapor barrier that is very easy to use and very effective. It offers long-term protection that companies like Chavez rely on to build a lasting reputation. These products are subjected to rigorous conditions for testing including cycles of wetting and drying then exposure to a range of temperatures and other simulated conditions to ensure it holds up and exceeds the requirements of ASTM E1745 Class A.
Seaming Tape
Their Tape is designed specifically to work with their Wrap which makes this product perfect for sealing any seams or penetrations. This is low permeance, pressure-sensitive tape that is very easy to install.SI also endorses all installation procedures set down in ASTM E1643 which is standard practice for selection, design, installation, and inspection of water vapor retarders used in contact with earth or granular fill under concrete slabs.
Chavez Concrete has chosen SI’s products for many years and SI’s local team over experts were available to answer all Chavez Concrete’s questions.
Chavez Concrete’s comments: "The 15-Mil Vapor Barrier and Tape were really easy to work with because of the flexibility of the products. When you have a high-performance vapor barrier and accessories that are easy to work with, it reduces the labor hours used to install the material."
By using these products, they were able to maintain their schedule with an effective installation and achieved the project’s specs in compliance with ASTM E1643.Mark Chavez and Chavez Concrete were able to meet their deadlines. SI is pleased that the family of products could play a role in their success. SI is honored to work with companies like Chavez Concrete due to their expertise and dedication which actually motivates SI to make their products and services the very best! In turn, they are dedicated to offering innovative solutions and only the very best customer service!
